And the winner is…

American Idol 9 Finals First Impressions.
Ah, final two! Cue the ridiculously melodramatic “showdown” analogies, the intense background track and the “I’m ______ and I am the next American Idol” clips!
So, last week, Crystal was pretty meh while Lee brought the house down. How did the two 24-year-olds (Crystal is only 24?!) do this week, the most important week of all (although according to Simon, every week is the most important week ever in their wee young lives)?
American Idol Top 3 Results.
Some random notes from the episode:
-What happened to the group performances? They may have been terrible this season (and the previous few) but at least they’re more entertaining than that whole Tonight with Seacrest thing they had going on there.
-Crystal? Is absolutely adorable. I think she showed more personality in that little clip of her home visit than the entire season so far (not that she’s been an utter dud or anything). And I know it’s not on purpose, but that little conversation about her diabetes? So nabbing her the crown.
-Lee basically cried his way through his entire home visit, which is kinda endearing (and actually has been the whole season) considering he looks like one of those “Dude!” kinda laid-back…dudes. I mean, he’s basically out-Doolittle-ing Melinda Doolittle with the whole “oh em gee, I can’t believe this is happening to me” thing but it’s totally believable here. He really does look that surrealised (yes, I invent words now. It’s awesome).
-Casey’s home visit = utter snoozefest, pretty much like his performances.
-I can’t believe they padded up the show with so much rubbish and then basically went through the entire elimination process in literally three minutes. Still, though, this has to be one of the most predictable results in seasons.
-Looking back, it’s really surprising how far Casey has gotten. I mean, he started out as one of those novelty, almost-joke auditions but he managed to stay so long (and actually pretty deservedly so, considering this season was such a washout) and actually had a few great performances.
-Still, I’m excited for next week. Both Crystal and Lee have had their down weeks (although neither have been bad at all even on their worst weeks) but hopefully they’ll both bring it next week. One’s who I think is the best performer this season and deserves to win and the other is my personal fave. At least the right two survived (I mean, Siobhan was my fave for most of the early competition but she was totally mid-ranking for me by the time she got out).
American Idol 9 Top Three First Impressions.
Yay, we’ve finally reached top three! Soon this dreadfully meh season will be over. Thankfully, two of my faves are still around and will (probably) make top two so it ain’t that bad.
Why are they only singing two songs each? I remember the days when they used to do three songs by this stage (and that’s on top of doing live medleys, instead of lip-synched single song performances during results shows). The kids nowadays have it easier, man.
Anyway, this week: judges’ choice + contestants’ choice. How did they do?
American Idol 9 Top 4 First Impressions.
Last season I actually thought Jamie Foxx was one of the better mentors so it’s cool that he’s back. He didn’t seem to get to do much this time around though. But anyway, the top four tackled songs from the cinema! How’d they do?
American Idol 9 Top 5 First Impressions.
After two weeks of no reviews, I’m back! Just in time for what promises to be a snooze-fest of an episode, it seems. I mean, seriously, songs of centuries past Sinatra? Could there be any less contemporary theme (which the judges always knock the contestants for choosing)?
So last week, Siobhan left! Alas, while she definitely wasn’t my bottom (how why is Aaron still there?), she has been deproving and stagnating consistently in the past few weeks. Definitely shouldn’t have left so early but I don’t think it was as big of a shocking ouster or robbery as everyone made it out to be.
This week, how did the remaining five do? Were they as boring as I everyone expected?
American Idol 9 Top 9 (again) First Impressions.
So, it’s the top 9 again, only this time it’s even scarier during the results because two will be going. This week, the theme is Elvis Presley and the mentor is Glambert and I have no idea what’s the connection between the two is but I’m loving how, even though they keep saying it’s a girl’s (i.e. Crystal’s) season, they keep choosing themes that lean towards the guys more. I’m not saying girls can’t rock Elvis, but it’s obviously more suited to guys, y’know?
In any case, let’s see how they did!
American Idol 9 Top 9 Performances: First Impressions
Beatles Week! Ok fine, so it’s songbooks of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. But that’s kinda the same anyway. Looking at this batch, it looks like quite a few of them have the potential to knock it out of the park, since it fits into their genres pretty well.
Whoa, for a moment there, I thought the show managed to get “Sir Paul” as the mentor of the week. Wouldn’t that have been awesome?
American Idol Top 10 Performance: First Impressions
You might have noticed (but probably not) that I’ve changed the title of my performance show review to “First Impressions”. I mean, my reviews are reviews but they’re always based solely on my first impressions and, although my opinion will probably change after repeated listens (especially since I’m totally fickle), it will just seem schizophrenic to keep changing it so I’m just gonna label them as such from now on.
So, tonight, Soul and R&B! Which are totally not my genres and I’m predicting a lot of snoozes (especially looking at the song list and seeing that most of them chose really old, boring sounding choices). At least Usher’s more credible than Miley as a mentor.
American Idol 9 Top 11 Performances + Results
Ok so I was out for most of Wednesday (presentation early in the morning, lunch with my presentation mates, lecture and then dinner with my secondary school friends before having to trudge up 24 floors worth of stairs because all three lifts servicing my block broke down) so I didn’t get to do this before the results came out. So, since the results are out, I’ll just combine everything into one long entry.
This week: Billboard #1 hits!
