American Idol 9 Top 5 First Impressions.

After two weeks of no reviews, I’m back! Just in time for what promises to be a snooze-fest of an episode, it seems. I mean, seriously, songs of centuries past Sinatra? Could there be any less contemporary theme (which the judges always knock the contestants for choosing)?

So last week, Siobhan left! Alas, while she definitely wasn’t my bottom (how why is Aaron still there?), she has been deproving and stagnating consistently in the past few weeks. Definitely shouldn’t have left so early but I don’t think it was as big of a shocking ouster or robbery as everyone made it out to be.

This week, how did the remaining five do? Were they as boring as I everyone expected?

American Idol 9 Top 9 (again) First Impressions.

So, it’s the top 9 again, only this time it’s even scarier during the results because two will be going. This week, the theme is Elvis Presley and the mentor is Glambert and I have no idea what’s the connection between the two is but I’m loving how, even though they keep saying it’s a girl’s (i.e. Crystal’s) season, they keep choosing themes that lean towards the guys more. I’m not saying girls can’t rock Elvis, but it’s obviously more suited to guys, y’know?

In any case, let’s see how they did!

American Idol 9 Top 9 Performances: First Impressions

Beatles Week! Ok fine, so it’s songbooks of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. But that’s kinda the same anyway. Looking at this batch, it looks like quite a few of them have the potential to knock it out of the park, since it fits into their genres pretty well.

Whoa, for a moment there, I thought the show managed to get “Sir Paul” as the mentor of the week. Wouldn’t that have been awesome?

American Idol Top 10 Performance: First Impressions

You might have noticed (but probably not) that I’ve changed the title of my performance show review to “First Impressions”. I mean, my reviews are reviews but they’re always based solely on my first impressions and, although my opinion will probably change after repeated listens (especially since I’m totally fickle), it will just seem schizophrenic to keep changing it so I’m just gonna label them as such from now on.

So, tonight, Soul and R&B! Which are totally not my genres and I’m predicting a lot of snoozes (especially looking at the song list and seeing that most of them chose really old, boring sounding choices). At least Usher’s more credible than Miley as a mentor.

American Idol 9 Top 11 Performances + Results

Ok so I was out for most of Wednesday (presentation early in the morning, lunch with my presentation mates, lecture and then dinner with my secondary school friends before having to trudge up 24 floors worth of stairs because all three lifts servicing my block broke down) so I didn’t get to do this before the results came out. So, since the results are out, I’ll just combine everything into one long entry.

This week: Billboard #1 hits!

American Idol 9: First to go!

Boo for no group song! David Cook really showed why he won two seasons ago. I mean, there isn’t a single guy this year who can match his raw vocal power (much as I love Lee, he’s a pale shadow of him, for now).

Anyway, Spoiler alert!

American Idol 9: Top 12 sing the Rolling Stones.

And…it’s the first live show on the huge stage (and whoa, is it HUGE) this season. What’s with the X-Factor-ish introduction, with the cheesy announcer? Well, this week’s theme is Rolling Stones and, although I thought I didn’t know many of their songs, I saw the performance list tonight and I actually recognise like half of them so woo for me not being a musical doofus!

So, before I ramble on (and I will be prone to that tonight as I’m really tired from having to use my brain a day at school) too much, let’s head to the performances…

American Idol 9: Top 16 Guys review

So the girls did pretty well last night. Would the guys match up this week? Hopefully Lee continues to get better (and less pitchy), Andrew finally ups his game and that darn Todrick gets himself off the show. Here we go!

American Idol: Top 20 review.

one comment

This is hilariously late and, as such, since nobody’s going to read it, probably, I’m going to try to keep it short (although, wiht 240 people, how short can it be?). These are my song-by-song recap of the past two weeks of American Idol performances, the first of which I can only label as probably the worst semi-final in Idol history last week’s shows (tried to do both top 24 and top 20 but it took forever).
